Understand how filtered water helps to create the perfect espresso for your coffee.
Hard water, which has a different (mineral rich) taste to soft water, will eventually build up limescale, damaging the coffee machine and affecting the taste of the coffee.
BRITA water filters optimise the mineral content in water that create limescale - ensuring the coffee is consistently high quality.
Limescale is the single biggest enemy of good quality coffee.
BRITA water filters are cleverly designed to filter excess minerals out of the water using a two-stage filtration process.
The first stage uses activated carbon made from coconut shells to trap small organic compounds, pesticides, mercury and the smell and taste of chlorine.
After this, the next stage is called ion-exchange in which tiny resin beads exchange their own ions for minerals in the water, capturing heavy metals such as copper, cadmium and zinc. This process softens the water to reduce limescale build-up.
The water then travels through a fleece which retains any fine particles before the water exits the filter.
The result of this process is water with a mineral content optimised for drink quality and equipment protection.
Limescale build up causes an increase in energy consumption. This can mean that the machines have to work harder and subsequently, they use more energy.
A build up of limescale will also damage the coffee machine, causing them to break before their expected shelf life. Eliminating limescale build up will reduce landfill waste by providing the machine with a longer lifespan.
Coffee machines such as TopBrewer also dispense still and sparkling water. Consistently great tasting water from the machine reduces the need to buy plastic water bottles and therefore reduces plastic bottle wastage.
Each TopBrewer comes with a BRITA water filter to ensure the water quality in every cup across the country is the same, regardless of the local hardness of the water.
BRITA filters need replacing because their active filtration ingredients (activated carbon and ion-exchange resin) become saturated and loose their ability to trap components.
The filters used on TopBrewer machines need replacing annually or sooner if their capacity has been reached (depending on the hardness/softness of water in the your area). This ensures that there is no chance for limescale to build up, and allows your coffee to consistently taste great.
